Breaking the boundaries of flavour, Nuss meringues include basil with lemon curd and muscovado with cardamom cream, alongside classic favourites such as raspberry, chocolate and coffee.

The Nuss philosophy is simple – to provide the food-lovers of Wellington with moments of indulgence and memories to share.

The Baker’s Story

My grandmother was a confectioner. My earliest baking memories are of standing on a stool next to her, mimicking actions and learning techniques. Fondants, marzipans and chocolates were eased into delicate moulds before being wrapped in exquisite foils. My mother was a keen exponent of the Kiwi baking classics as well, so baking was all around me.

I have been a passionate home-baker all my life, and delight in sharing good food with family and friends.

Nuss is my last child. Born in October 2018 to bring the food-lovers of Wellington a small but unique range of indulgent mallowy meringues and crisp biscuits.

A nod to my cultural heritage, ‘Nuss’ simply means ‘nut’ in Yiddish (and is pronounced to rhyme with platypus). Almonds, walnuts, hazelnuts and pistachios feature regularly in my baking. A nut is a perfect tiny capsule of flavour and texture. ‘Nuss’ is also a playful nod to my own journey with OCD.

Nuss honours my family’s strong eastern-European baking traditions, while incorporating modern flavour profiles. I hope my baking will provide you with moments of indulgence and memories to share.
